Hello everyone, and welcome to the OJADIRA blog. I’m TT, writing from the quaint city of Building Bridges Pittsburgh, where I’m a big advocate for building community wherever I go. OJADIRA means ‘Market of Resilience,’ a name that reflects the strength, creativity, and perseverance found throughout the communities it seeks to connect.

OJADIRA is a welcoming place to discover local businesses owned by African diaspora-owned businesses owners, learn about the people behind them, and find meaningful community connections. If you want to support Black-owned businesses with intention, this is a space to start.

This blog will be a place to share business-owner stories, talk about the events we host, and share updates as OJADIRA grows so we can continue building and enjoying this platform together. Every community begins with an invitation, and this is mine to you. Whether you are discovering OJADIRA for the first time or returning to follow along, I hope you feel there is room here for you. Join me in creating community one story at a time.

# **Why OJADIRA Supports African Diaspora-Owned Businesses**

I started imagining OJADIRA because I wanted discovery to feel more personal. Finding a business is not only about locating a service. It can also be a way to learn who is building something and choose to support work that reflects the richness of African diaspora communities.

OJADIRA is for people who want to discover African diaspora-owned businesses, and for business owners who want their work to be seen in a space that values connection. It brings those interests together through clear, approachable stories about businesses, their services, and the local relationships around them.

- **For curious customers** — discover businesses and services connected to African diaspora communities.
- **For business owners** — share what you offer and help more people understand the work behind your business.
- **For the wider community** — support local connections and take part in a more welcoming way of discovering one another.

OJADIRA is not about speaking for every person or business. It is about creating room for people to be represented in their own words and for readers to make informed, meaningful connections.

# **More Than a Business Directory**

The businesses we discover are shaped by the people behind them: their skills, services, care, and reasons for building something of their own. That is why OJADIRA makes space for more than a name. The story around a business can help someone understand its purpose and see how it connects to the community.

When you learn about a business through its story and services, support can become more thoughtful. You may discover something you were looking for, find a new way to support a local owner, or recognize a connection that would otherwise have remained unseen. Small discoveries can open the door to lasting community value.

- **Discover** — explore African and diaspora-owned businesses and the services they provide.
- **Understand** — learn about the people, purpose, and local connections behind the work.
- **Support** — choose to engage with businesses and communities in ways that feel genuine and useful.

| **A simple idea with community value** When people can discover one another more easily, they have more opportunities to connect with, learn from, and support the businesses around them. |

# **How to Discover and Support Local Businesses**

This blog will be a place to follow the people and businesses that give OJADIRA its purpose. I’ll use it to welcome you into the community, highlight the value of discovery and support, and share the perspectives that help us understand the work happening around us.

You can expect a practical, people-centered focus:

- **Business stories** — introductions to African diaspora-owned businesses and the people behind them.
- **Services and discovery** — helpful context about what businesses offer and how they connect with the communities they serve.
- **Community perspective** — thoughtful writing about the connections, experiences, and shared value that bring people closer.
- OJADIRA **updates** — clear news about how this space is growing and what is taking shape.

These are starting points, not limits. I want the blog to remain useful, welcoming, and open to the people who make OJADIRA meaningful.
